The secret to success lies within your daily routine. Success looks different for everyone, but proper preparation prevents poor performance. That's where planning comes in. Planning for the week ahead does not have to be a drastic task that takes 5 hours to do. Planning can be whatever you want it to be truthfully!
Whether you decide to plan only on Sundays or start fresh bright and early on Monday morning, taking the time to plan for the week ahead prevents you from feeling overwhelmed in the long run. Getting up for work in the morning at 6am is most likely something people do not look forward to especially on a Monday morning. But if somebody took the time to lay out 2 possible work outfits on Sunday, it would give them more time on Monday to do things such as making a pot of coffee while they get dressed for work or take a moment to express gratitude for the day ahead.
Adulting is a never ending job. We have to worry about bills, transportation, shelter, and if you have children you have to care for another human/humans. The point is adults have to deal with multiple responsibilities and may get caught up in the midst of it all and lack proper rest. Rest does not equate to sleep. Taking the day off to watch your favorite movie and lay around is rest. Turning your phone off for the weekend because you feel overstimulated is a form of rest. Incorporating rest into your schedule can give you a sense of when you need to take a time out from the world.
Sometimes you have to disconnect in order to reconnect to get back on track. As stated before, we all have different responsibilities. If you aren't familiar with planning, start small by making a to-do list. This can include things such as:
What day of the week you're going to wash laundry
When you'll complete work for school
How often you want to attend the gym
Studies have shown when you take time to write things down you are more than likely able to remember them vs saying it aloud. If you're new to planning, I say to challenge yourself and plan a day out for yourself, then gradually move on to planning for the week. And remember, if you plan a task such as to read 40 pages from a book you're reading and you don't get to it; it's not the end of the world. Sometimes we plan things and unforeseen circumstances occur. Be kind with yourself and take one step at a time.
